A Four-Year Journey of Scientific Exploration
Students need the opportunity to prepare for upper level science learning while developing a love of the natural world. We approach these simple, yet critical, goals in a few unique ways.
To begin, we offer a unique focus on environmental stewardship. Our permanent campus is being constructed with green building techniques, and our science teachers will call upon the very best environmental research to inform their lessons and empower their students to become environmental stewards.
Additionally, our students study math, the life sciences and the physical sciences during every year of their four year journey. As the students approach each subject anew each year, their understanding, skill and appreciation deepen.
Adolescents are ready for technology to play an important role in the learning process. Across the country, Waldorf high school students begin their work with computers by learning how computer hardware actually works. They go on to write software and work in computer lab spaces designed specifically for their needs.
What’s more, Waldorf high school teachers bring a unique perspective to the students’ developmental needs at each grade level. Ninth graders learn to observe and describe phenomena precisely as they look into the present world and see what is true. Tenth graders are ready to learn how the world works. Topics such as mechanics and centripetal and centrifugal forces help students understand how balance can be achieved midst forces of opposition. Eleventh graders enter the invisible kingdoms of the atom, electricity and the study of infinity. Their active intellect is now discovering that which cannot be easily observed. Finally, in twelfth grade, students are given the opportunity through subjects like zoology to understand their relationship to the world and consider the responsibilities inherent in that relationship.
